Soffit and fascia

Soffit and fascia repair, and the leak behind it

The boards along your roof edge take the water that old gutters and loose trim let through. We replace what’s rotted and close up the path the water took.

The short answer

BNH Roofing repairs and replaces rotted fascia and soffit across the Richmond area. Because rot along the roof edge almost always starts with water from the gutters or the roof edge, we fix the cause too, so the new boards don’t rot the same way. Estimates are free.

Signs the roof edge needs work

  • Peeling paint, dark stains or soft spots on the boards behind the gutter.
  • Gutters pulling away or sagging, because the board they hang on has gone soft.
  • Sagging or missing soffit panels, or gaps where birds and squirrels get in.
  • Water dripping behind the gutter instead of into it.

Fix the cause, not just the board

A new fascia board behind the same clogged or leaking gutter will rot the same way. When we replace rotted wood, we look at what put the water there: gutters, a missing drip edge, or a gap at the roof edge. That’s why we do this work with the same crew that does roofs and gutters.

With a new roof or new gutters

A re-roof or new gutters is the easiest time to fix the roof edge, because it’s already open. Houston checks the fascia on every roof and gutter estimate and includes any repair in the itemized price.

Questions

Common questions

What’s the difference between soffit and fascia?

Fascia is the board along the edge of the roof that your gutters hang on. Soffit is the panel underneath the overhang, between the fascia and the wall. Soffit vents let air into the attic.

Why did my fascia rot?

Usually water. Clogged or leaking gutters, a missing drip edge, or a gap at the roof edge lets water soak the board behind the gutter, and it rots from there.

Do I need a new roof to fix it?

That depends on what let the water in. Houston finds the cause first. If it’s the gutters or a missing drip edge, that’s what gets fixed along with the boards. If the roof edge itself is failing, he shows you and prices it.
