- Tear-off
- Taking the old roof all the way off, down to the wood.
- Deck (decking)
- The wood boards the roof is built on.
- Underlayment
- A water-resistant sheet between the wood and the shingles.
- Flashing
- Metal pieces that seal the joints at chimneys, walls and pipes, where most leaks start.
- Drip edge
- Metal along the roof edge that sends water into the gutter.
- Ridge vent
- A vent along the peak that lets hot, damp attic air out.
- Workmanship warranty
- Our promise about how we installed it. If our work fails, we fix it.
- Non-prorated
- The warranty pays the full cost of covered materials, not a share that shrinks each year.

Eight layers, built from the deck up
Both packages are built on GAF architectural shingles. Peace of Mind upgrades the shingle and the underlayment, and adds drip edge at every roof edge.

Warranty questions, answered
What’s the difference between a workmanship warranty and a manufacturer warranty?
A manufacturer warranty covers defects in the materials: the shingles themselves. A workmanship warranty covers how they were installed. Ours is 5 years on Essential and 10 years on Peace of Mind: if our installation fails, we fix it.
What does your workmanship warranty cover?
Everything we installed: shingles, starter and ridge cap, flashing, pipe boots, ventilation, drip edge, underlayment and any decking we replaced. If a covered leak damages your ceiling, we repair the drywall and paint too. Tell us within 30 days of noticing a problem and let us make the repair. On Peace of Mind roofs, it transfers once to the next owner if they tell us in writing within 60 days of closing.
What is GAF System Plus?
A GAF warranty available on qualifying full GAF roof systems installed by a GAF Certified contractor. On our Peace of Mind package it includes 50 years of non-prorated coverage on manufacturing defects for a single-family home, can be transferred once in the first 20 years if you sell, covers wind for 15 years with no maximum wind speed through GAF’s WindProven coverage (our Peace of Mind install qualifies; Essential doesn’t), and includes 25 years of protection against blue-green algae, the cause of black roof streaks. We register it with GAF for you once the job is paid in full.
How do I choose?
Essential fits when you want a solid GAF roof at the lower price. Peace of Mind is the strongest roof we build: it doubles our workmanship warranty to 10 years, upgrades the shingle and underlayment, adds drip edge, and adds GAF System Plus. It’s also the one to pick if you might sell, because both warranties transfer once to the next owner. Houston will tell you which he’d pick for your roof and why, and both are priced side by side on every estimate.
Is the price different for the two packages?
Yes. Peace of Mind costs more because of the upgraded shingle and underlayment, the drip edge, the longer workmanship warranty, and the GAF System Plus registration. Your estimate shows both prices.
