Financing a roof: what to ask before borrowing

The short answer

Roof financing is a loan to pay for your roof over time. Before you take one, compare the total amount you'll repay (not just the monthly payment), the interest rate and term, any fees, and whether you can pay it off early without a penalty. Get your roof price first, then look at financing, so you know what you're borrowing for.

Get the roof price first

Financing works best when you already know the exact price. Get your estimate, choose your package, then look at how to pay for it.

Compare the total, not the payment

A lower monthly payment over a longer term can cost much more overall. For each offer, look at:

  • The total you’ll repay, including interest and fees.
  • The interest rate (APR) and the term (how many months).
  • Fees, including origination or late fees.
  • Early payoff: can you pay it off early without a penalty?
  • Promotional terms: if there’s a 0% period, what happens when it ends?

Other ways to pay

You can also pay outright: with BNH, 30% is due when you sign and the rest after the final walkthrough, by card or bank transfer. Some homeowners use savings, a home equity line, or a mix.
